The Journey to Becoming “Dr. Plex”
Welcome to DrPlexMD.com. I’m Dr. Allen P. Green, MD, but you may know me as “Dr. Plex” – a nickname inspired by my passion for therapeutic plasma exchange (PLEX). My fascination with this revolutionary procedure began during medical school when I discovered its profound applications for longevity and Alzheimer’s disease treatment.
My Background
I was raised in Northeast Pennsylvania before embarking on my professional journey with the Active Duty Air Force after high school. During my military service, I served as a squadron physical training leader, helping fellow airmen improve their fitness and excel in their PT evaluations. This experience ignited my passion for helping others achieve their health goals.
After leaving the Air Force, I continued as a personal trainer and completed the ISSA personal training certification. As a lifelong athlete, I’ve always valued physical fitness, but witnessing transformations in others’ lives deepened my commitment to wellness.
Academic Journey
My educational path reflects my dedication to both science and practical application:
- Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Coastal Carolina University
- Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from American Military University
- Doctor of Medicine from Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston
The PLEX Connection
It was during medical school that I discovered the fascinating research on heterochronic parabiosis and plasma exchange for studying the aging process. The AMBAR trial particularly captured my attention and solidified my desire to pursue a career in this field.
This passion led me to specialize in Clinical Pathology – the foundation specialty for transfusion medicine, where apheresis procedures like PLEX are primarily performed. I completed my residency at the University of Texas Southwestern, training under field leaders including Dr. Ravi Sarode, and established a valuable professional relationship with Dr. Dobri Kiprov. To enhance my clinical skills and broaden my medical knowledge, I also completed a year of Family Medicine training during my residency.
Professional Path
My career began with a bone marrow transplant group, focusing on stem cell collections for cancer patients. Later, I joined Lifespan Edge in Dallas, TX, a company led by world-renowned physician Dr. Mike Roizen. This organization’s mission perfectly aligns with my own: bringing therapeutic plasma exchange to the masses while advancing our understanding of the aging process through rigorous research.
Our Mission
At Lifespan Edge, we’re dedicated to:
- Making therapeutic plasma exchange accessible to more people
- Conducting small and large-scale research to enhance our understanding of the aging process
- Investigating the mechanisms by which PLEX can improve longevity and quality of life
I’m committed to combining my passion for wellness, scientific expertise, and clinical experience to help people live longer, healthier lives through innovative approaches to aging and disease prevention.
Thank you for visiting DrPlexMD.com. I look forward to sharing this journey toward optimal health and longevity with you.
